In steel-making facilities where current-carrying melt is used, it seems promising to use electric vortex stirring arising due to volume electromagnetic forces generated in the process of interaction between currents and their self-magnetic fields and causing electric vortex flows. The authors considered mathematical models and algorithms for calculation of electric vortex flows and heat-and-mass transfer parameters in current carrying melts of melting facilities in liquid metal baths at axisymmetric electric current spreading. Computer modeling of electric vortex flow parameters and sulphur content was carried out for a 3 ton steel-making bath of a DC arc furnace for a one-slag refining practice. The research group calculated the melt heating rate and the minimum time of desulfurization process as well as the mean integral parameters of heat-and-mass transfer by the bath capacity.
